A Place Called Home Review

Oliver Patterson

A Place Called Home by NATALIE CLARK is a beautiful track capturing the optimistic yet soulful, easy-listening joy of their music with light, breezy melodies and a driving rhythm, injecting it with energy. CLARK’s story is a fascinating one. Talking to Richard Brandson on a radio show, the billionaire offered her a chance to sing on stage, which she took. Putting her nerves aside, she sang beautifully and impressed him as well as the hundreds of others in attendance.

Her spontaneity is an example we should all follow, she took a chance and her career and life have no doubt improved because of it.

I bring this up because it is an amazing story but also because her levity and happy-go-lucky attitude come through in her music. The vocals have a boldness and confidence to them that feels uniquely candid and unadulterated. This energy is matched by the bouncy synths that make up the foundation of the song. They have a playful march to them, dancing through the track behind the vocals. They provide an alternative melody to the vocals, adding a beautiful contrast that elevates them.

Harmony is also used throughout A Place Called Home to amplify the emotional power of the vocals and provide this sense of sonic unity through the production choices. Over lines like “I’m a Rolling Stone” the song’s harmonies feel like additional wind in its sales, giving the vocalist increased energy and intensity to match the sense of exploring the world like a rolling stone. Being a rolling stone also links back to CLARK’s choices of setting off to LA and uprooting her life to pursue her passion. The track captures that excitement Through these harmonies and the sonic cohesion between the lyrics and the melody.

A Place Called Home is an exploration of how NATALIE CLARK’s life has evolved and how she has jumped at an opportunity with a sense of optimism and joy. It’s an addictive, honest, and fun synth-pop experience.

Sinking/Floating MAIJAH is an alternative pop power pairing that works like strawberries and cream, delving into the duality of the human experience. A Different Kind

A Different Kind by Social Gravy does the impossible by creating a project that delivers on a deep, emotionally resonant meaning while also having a catchy tune that appeals as much on the first listen as it does on the thirty first. If anything, this project ages like fine wine. Different tones and texture become […]
