Action Space Battle (Redux) is an Epic and Emotionally Resonant Rock Experience

Action Space Battle (Redux) by WAR GODS OF THE DEEP is an energetic and bold classic rock experience that veers into hard rock in parts while still staying true to its core identity. It utilises sinister instrumentals, built up of layers of heavy electric guitars full of distortion and venom. This tonal choice is juxtaposed with the honesty of the vocal delivery. They feel energetic and confident but also emotionally conscious of each track’s themes, a contrast to the industrial boldness of the instrumentals.

The opening track, Transmission, utilises the strumming of the guitar to form a counter rhythm to the drums. This technique shows the ability of WAR GODS OF THE DEEP. They can use their instruments to influence the rhythm and melody of the track simultaneously. The track uses harmonies to emphasise important vocals and provide a sense of unity that travels beyond this track and into the whole project.

Sons of the Serpent transitions the energy into a more heavy rock angle. The distortion is more significant than Transmission. The pace of rhythm built by the drums is fast and aggressive. This switch gives the sense that the album is building in energy.

As the project continues, we see the ebb and flow of energy from track to track. Beautiful Oblivion holds onto the heavy rock influences and explores a depth of vocal register we haven’t heard fully explored on previous tracks. By contrast, the next track, The Machine, takes an entirely different perspective. It uses a crisp electric guitar melody to explore a melancholic and thematically sensitive track that stands out because of its unique and bold subversion to the rest of the album.

In the latter half, the classic and hard-rock themes unite to provide a unique combination that suits the album. Tracks like Light of Your Soul and Burn the Misery capture the hard-rock influences while having a more positive timbre and tone than previous tracks on the album. This choice feels like a cathartic close to the project, having the themes come together while elevating the intensity of the album’s sonic landscape.

Overall, this album’s unique positive messages and hard-rock influences stood out amongst its contemporaries and earned a place on your playlist.
