Papo de Profissional by SAAD.BEAT is a Lofi hip-hop collection of tracks, taking inspiration from nostalgic rap that a generation grew up on. With excellent use of samples throughout, especially on tracks like Repressão Policial, this EP stands out amongst contemporaries in its genre. Its smooth and confident production is matched by comfortable and charismatic vocals that range from laid-back and reflective to emphatic, aggressive, and passionate.
Tracks like Plano de Carreira and Mulher explore the more laid-back side of the EP’s range. Repressão Policial and Sobre Vivência push the EP in an alternative, aggressive, and confident direction. Sobre Vivência stands out for the frustration in the tone of the vocal delivery. The mix feels unstable and chaotic. It embeds this shiny synth that would traditionally inspire a sense of awe. However, with the melody twisting and distorting around it, this shiny timbre feels more like the synth is fighting to stay above water in the mix, linking to the track’s core theme of survival.
Interestingly, the more introspective, slower, and lyrical tracks appear later in the EP. It is almost like the project begins young, confident, and aggressive and then matures throughout every track. Of the later tracks, Clássicos stands out for its deliberate marching cadence, backed up by this beautiful jazz sample. While holding onto the original charm of the sample SAAD.BEAT reinvents it, fitting the vibe of the song. The gentle and consistent cadence flows nicely alongside the beat. The vocal leads the track while the melody supports it. It feels as if the two aspects fit each other perfectly.
Overall Papo de Profissional stands out because of its variety of tones and ability to use samples beautifully. The EP’s mixture of confidence and introspection shows maturity and experience with the production and SAAD.BEAT’s sampling feels both transformational and honest to the original intention of the sample at the same time, giving every track this beautiful vintage yet current vibe.
