Remnants is a Euphoric Trip

Remnants by the Neuromaniacs is an avant-garde instrumental piece that feels like a trip from beginning to end. Distancing themselves from their previous darker material, The Neuromaniacs tap into a euphoric high with this track, utilising a shiny synth to guide you through the composition from beginning to end.

This element feels like it leads the composition from the front, directing the melody and evolutions of the track’s timbre.

The synth has an emotional softness and emphasis within the mix that almost feels as if it demands the attention a vocal would. The subtleties, trills and delicate cadence with which it leads the melody give the track not only a guiding light but also an emotional core.

Strings are also heavily utilised as the track’s sound evolves, building tension and a sense of grandeur – elevating the psychedelic elements to the next level with a sense of cosmic awe created by entangled layers of string harmonies. It works alongside the ethereal synth in a way that doesn’t feel like a jarring switch from the song’s original melody but instead feels like each element accompanying the other and building up the sound into something greater than each element individually.

With how modern and alien the rest of the track seems, the drum beat feels down to earth, often resembling a traditional soft rock rhythm. This feels like a conscious choice to juxtapose the sonic heights of the rest of the track. It enriches the depth of the track’s tapestry, providing a sense of diversity that heightens the bold choices in the melody by comparison. It almost feels like the creeping sense of reality sitting underneath the trip, grounding the chaos of the melody.

The euphoric, psychedelic energy of that track lands even harder because of its evolutions throughout, the emotional through line of the synth and grounding rhythm, providing structure and diversity within the mix.
