Fires Of The Blue Moon

Fires Of The Blue Moon by MEDIVH is an intense and cinematic experience, utilising an alt rock, grunge soundscape to paint this picture of passion and confidence from beginning to end. The track ebbs and flows with tone and energy while also having a consistency of vision that connects and unites its sonic evolutions. The first aspect that stood out to me was the excellent use of harmonies. The lead vocal has a gravelly confidence and charisma that connects each layer together. Behind this sound, the harmonies provide an elevating energy, putting wind in the sails of the vocal while also providing a sonic contrast which elevates the piece overall.

Without the harmonies, the piece has a distinctively deep, rubbery timbre. With the addition of the vocal harmonies, the track gains a sense of levity and a shiny timbre which contrasts that deep gravelly texture. It also emphasises the richness of the main vocal with this juxtaposing tone. The electric guitar is also a strongpoint, cutting through the track like a hot knife through butter. It feels full of life and energy while also being emotionally resonant. The guitar stands alone as a narrative and melodic tool at the same time. I was really impressed by the subtle use of distortion on it in the mix, it gives it this crunchy emphasis that builds its power and leans into this grunge identity at the track’s core. As the vocal moves up and down its melodic journey, the guitar follows, mirroring its through line. It almost works as an additional harmony, lending the piece a sense of unity and togetherness which adds momentum to the end result as a listener. Overall, this track’s most impressive aspect is its confidence and energy. The way it conveys passion through sound in both the guitar and vocal performance is impressive and deserves your attention.
