Transmission Seven
Transmission Seven by LATENIGHTBEATFEAST is a chilled out, downtempo, electronic project that showcases range as well as production props. The project crosses over a variety of tonal styles and emotional scenes while maintaining a sonic through line which brings out the project’s personality. Instead of building a narrative from beginning to end, this project crafts individual soundscapes with so much depth that you can get lost in the music. This miasma of sound allows you to paint a picture in your own head, making each track both universal and deeply personal at the same time. The first track, Transmission Seven, builds the foundation for the album’s sound with this crunching and twisting rhythmic component that almost feels like a broken sample. Above it, this melancholic melody floats, entirely unattached to the rhythm of the track.
For me, this felt like a purposeful decision to begin the project on a languid, detached note as this shows the sonic diversity when compared to tracks like Determinism later in the project. I don’t normally cover the videos when doing music reviews but Determinism’s retro futuristic aesthetic creates a trippy vibe that heightens the impact of the song. It feels like this twisted version of the past that emphasises the anxiety of the unknown, a constant presence in interstellar exploration. The track itself also stands out within the overall project, it truly feels like a moment where all the pieces come together, providing the other side of the coin from the languid opening of Transmission Seven. The piece opens with this deep growl of a synth that reminded me a little of Hanz Zimmer’s orchestral style. The rhythm has a similar crunchy distortion, but on this track, it feels emphatic and confident because of how well integrated it is into the melodic aspects. This project’s soundscapes are individual, developed, and second to none when it comes to execution. The video is also very creative and bold. The concepts are awesome but it is the way they are delivered that makes this one truly a joy to listen to.
