Impress You Review

Oliver Patterson

Impress You by KENT DUSTIN is an indie rock track with heavy-rock elements. These roots contribute to its hyper-confident yet emotionally resonant sound. The track is about the pursuit of a beautiful woman’s attention. This subject matter is a complex theme to get across in a hyper-confident way because it acknowledges a sense of vulnerability and a need for her affection. KENT DUSTIN walks that line perfectly by accepting his need for her attention while delivering each line with a sense of belief and conviction that makes the whole track come together around the theme.

The vocals lead throughout the composition. They dictate the melody and allow other elements, such as the guitars, to bolster their delivery and elevate them beyond their execution. Despite the track being based in Australia, the vocals have a grit and passion that reminded me a little of some classic British rock tracks of the nineties. They raise and fall throughout specific lyrics. This vocal volatility creates a talkative style that oozes charisma and feels natural from beginning to end. It leans into its charm, lending the track a cheeky and confident attitude. There is a style DUSTIN brings to the table through his belief and confidence that gives the vocals the energy to lead the composition.

The guitar is another strong point. It has a rugged and aggressive sound created by layers of crunchy and fuzzy distortion that gives the track a sense of edge, contributing further to the confidence of the vocals while also contrasting their clarity with a beautiful but messy timbre, matching the chaos and excitement at the core of the themes of Impress You.

Overall, the different sonic aspects of the track come together to create a cohesive whole that captures an exciting, chaotic, and confident moment in a beautiful way.

Get A Job Review

Get A Job by SPLINTER is an energetic and excitable rock banger, exploring the frustration we feel about work. It covers the expectations of getting a job and the anger we feel succumbing to the rat race. The track also gives us a perspective on the alternatively hollow life of a rockstar, forever burdened by […]
