A’ma Get My Way Review

A’ma Get My Way by NNENNAYA KELLY is a confident afrobeats and pop fusion track about the power of feminine confidence and love. The foundation is the excellent, powerful vocal performance by NNENNAYA KELLY. Perfectly expressing the confidence at the core of the song’s identity, she shows her personality through her delivery of the lyrics. This vocal style allows the energy of the track to ebb and flow, feeling bold and courageous in the quiet sections as much as she does in the more energetic portions. This variety, to me, is what makes this track stand out.

Leading from the front, these vocals can set the tone and convey the song’s message nonstop from beginning to end. I also like the subtle harmonies throughout the track. They emphasise a higher register of the sonic tapestry, adding texture and richness. I also love the repetition of “get my way” in the chorus. It creates this hypnotic, driving, lyrical energy. The rhythm is another strong aspect. Instead of having one rhythm that controls the pacing with a rigid structure, A’ma Get My Way has several layers of rhythmic foundation that flow between one another, creating a unique groove that feels in touch with its afrobeats inspirations while also having a unique personality of its own. The song’s lyrics also explore confidence beautifully. Phrases like “see my baby, baby, you know I love you so” show one side of boldness in unbridled affection whereas the next line “but if you screw me, baby, A’ma let you go” shows the other side of this confidence. The song’s message feels like the vocalist is saying that she loves her partner but is not afraid of losing them because they knows they’ll be okay without them. This is an incredibly healthy perspective on relationships, and it’s refreshing to see this in a song as opposed to cartoony undying love that continues despite a toxic relationship.

NNENNAYA KELLY’s refreshing take on love and brilliant sonic execution put her a cut above the competition. A’ma Get My Way is a sonic shot of espresso you deserve to experience.

A Different Kind

A Different Kind by Social Gravy does the impossible by creating a project that delivers on a deep, emotionally resonant meaning while also having a catchy tune that appeals as much on the first listen as it does on the thirty first. If anything, this project ages like fine wine. Different tones and texture become […]
